1 Corinthians 6

Then and Now:
Moving to subject of lawsuits looks like a topic jump, but there are several connectors. Paul had just talked about the church's judging a fellow member. Here he links that to members looking for other kinds of judgement by outsiders, no less. You get clued in that the church should do it. We remember that the first part of Corinthians dealt with whole groups disputing which leader was best. There's not much space between groups against groups or individuals against individuals. And finally, we know that Paul has a major concern with the church's reputation. If anything would get his attention, notoriety about lawsuits would. It could not get left out of the letter.
