Overview - 1 Corinthians 5

Then and Now:
Shocking! That's chapter five. Paul condemns extremely unacceptable immoral behavior. There are differences in the ways commentators outline 1 Corinthians. They give varying titles and groupings to the verses. Fitzmyer is distinctive in separating 1:10 through 6:20 into four separate kinds of scandals:
--- 1:10-4:21 Preacher discontent
--- 5:1-5:13 Incest
--- 6:1-6:11 Christians in secular courts
--- 6:11-6:20 Prostitution.

Chapter five's 13 verses deal with the second disgraceful breach of Christian conduct. More than a breach, it was so bad that even secular Corinthians did not overlook it.
